Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub is a contemporary dance and multi-arts organisation for established and emerging artists, young people and the local community based in Newcastle, NSW.

We work to strengthen the presence of contemporary dance across Newcastle, the Central Coast and Greater Hunter region, and provide a support structure for dance and multidisciplinary artists to develop their practice, gain skills, and collaborate across disciplines through opportunities for:

  • professional residencies

  • intensive workshops & masterclasses

  • performance programs

  • community classes

Our vision is to be a leader in contemporary dance practice in Australia by creating a regional hub where contemporary artists, young people, and the community can interact and develop. We aim to transform Newcastle, the Central Coast, and the Greater Hunter Region into a regional centre of contemporary dance and collaborative interdisciplinary arts practice.

Catapult is transforming Newcastle into an innovative professional dance and collaborative arts hub, with national/ international recognition.  We have developed local, national, and international artistic partnerships that springboard artists and open professional pathways, creating an integrated metro-regional cultural landscape alongside dance works of the highest calibre.

Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub acknowledges that we conduct our business on the traditional lands of the Awabakal and Worimi people. We offer our respect to the custodians of these traditional lands, past, present and emerging and through them, to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“Since relocating to Newcastle, Cadi McCarthy has worked tirelessly to establish Catapult as a professional centre for choreographic development and contemporary dance for the Hunter Region. She has achieved a great deal within a short period of time through quality of work, support from the local community and more broadly from the wider national contemporary dance sector. Cadi brings significant expertise and a high level of professional dance to Newcastle and the region.”
