Future Tides is an intergenerational community dance program and performance for: minis (4-7 years), juniors (8-12) seniors (13 –17), emerging adults (18 –25) and adult community (26 – 60+). This community dance program is based on skills development in contemporary dance, and collaborative choreographic development that builds into a large-scale community performance.
The program is accessible, inclusive and requires no previous dance training. Each group (as above) will engage in a 10-week program, including a 1-hour weekly contemporary dance class, followed by a 1-hour choreographic development class; working collaboratively to create new dance pieces to be performed at the Lake Macquarie Museum of Art and Culture, Yapang.
Dancing in a creative, collaborative, fun way is a positive form of exercise. Dancing has incredible health benefits for all ages. Dancing strengthens muscles, improves balance, increases flexibility and provides the body with a well-rounded workout. Dancing alsop improves muscle tone, strength, co-ordination, endurance and fitness, and most importantly is a great way to meet new friends, improving individualswell-being and building positive communities.
Through Future Tides, participants will develop their physical, creative, imaginative, emotional and intellectual capacity through dance, as well as building social skills, confidence, positive well-being.
