A physical exploration into the complexities of the limbic system. A system of nerves and networks in the brain concerned with instinct and mood. The controls of our basic emotions (fear, pleasure, anger) and drives (hunger, sex, dominance). An Observant Man goes through the highs and lows of the human psyche, a journey of awareness to one’s self.
This virtuosic piece invites you to deep dive into a place we all know but long to understand. By removing the constructs in our mind created by society, we can begin to try.

NICHOLAS JACHNO

Nicholas Jachno is a Canberra based Contemporary Dancer. He studied a range of dance techniques at Canberra Dance Development Centre before attending The New Zealand School of Dance, graduating with a Diploma in Dance Performance majoring 1n Contemporary. During Nicholas’ time at the school. he was mvolved In a remount of Hofesh Shechter·s Political Mother for the 2016 graduation season. In lus third year he also worked alongside Footnote New Zealand Dance. was an understudy of the 2017 rendition of TLkJ Tane Ma.hut.a and worked with Cra.ig Bary to create a solo for the schools 50th Anmversary season Once. The solo was then ta.ken to Sydney as part of the Parachute Festival held by Legs on the Wall. In 2018, Nicholas has been a pa.rt of Malia.Johnston’s, Rushes. for the 2018 New Zealand Arts Festival. which received four Wellington Theatre Awards. He was also a dancer and collaborator in a design film project. Kinesis. that was displayed as part of the Lux Light Festival 1n Wellington and received a Bronze award at the Best Design Awards 2018. Nicholas also worked for Cacti McCarthy as a dancer in Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub’s premiere Season of That Place in Between. ln 2019, Nicholas premiered his fll’st solo work. An Observ8l1t Man. as a part of the DDCreative residency. The work has since been picked up to be a part of The Bold Festival, ESCALATE IV a.11d Dance on the Edge In Canberra.
