This work is about shedding light on suicide awareness especially within men being that September is Suicide awareness month. It tells the suffering that some go through and the stigma behind what it means to be a “strong man.” Daniel Mateo is a Gomeroi man from Newcastle. Daniel was a member of Catapult’s youth Initiative: The Fllpside Project, performing in New Translations at The Lock-Up 1n 2017, with choreographers: Cadi McCarthy, Jo Clancy, Natasha Rogers & Skip Willcox. He also performed as an emerging artist in The Flipside Project’s work: Sounds of Silence at Lake Macquarie Art Gallery in 2018. Daniel began his tertiary training at National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA Dance College) in 2018 and will be graduating 2020. Daniel has danced for/with choreographers such as Ca.di McCarthy, Natasha Rodgers, Frances Rings, Earth and many more.
